Water Main Improvements
During the summer months, our division is particularly busy with multiple necessary tasks. The contractor demands pick up and we are performing a large number of water service inspections to ensure proper installation. Several big projects and a lot of small projects have kept the department busy with contractors alone.
The summer months are the best time to excavate. We use this time catch up on some of the work that would have been impossible to do in the winter or otherwise costly and difficult. We repair and replace fire hydrants, dig problematic water valves, and typically fix quite a few curb stops or curb boxes.
Because of the action, our utility locating needs have also increased. We keep breaking records for total locate requests received and it keeps our division busy marking utilities.
The major project in effect this summer is the replacement of water mains and valves on Montana Ave. between Beall and the City Shops and N Rouse in the Bryant/ Bond area. For up to date street closures please visit our Street Reports page.
If you have any questions or concerns please call the city shops at 406-582-3200.
Sewer Main Improvements
The City of Bozeman Maintenance Division operates a year round sanitary sewer flushing and root-cutting program providing an extremely serviceable system to our customers. During the summer months we often have two crews each with two people to strengthen our sewer flushing and root-cutting programs, shown to the left.
Sewer taps on live sewer mains move to full force in the summer. Contractors are busy and we step up to keep the construction flowing smoothly. A picture of a sewer tap being made is shown to the right.
Since 1993 City maintenance crews have identified and repaired many deficiencies in our sanitary sewer collection system. This is attributable largely to a video inspection program, which has helped us maintain an extremely serviceable collection system. During the summer months, we are busy inspecting newly installed infrastructure with our televising van.
