No Lead Brass Notice - Plumbers, Excavators, and Contractors

As of January 4, 2014 Federal legislation S.3874 makes it unlawful for any person or business to introduce into commerce, sell, or offer for sale products for use in systems providing water intended for human consumption, in which the products’ wetted surface contains more than 0.25% lead by average weight.

Bozeman Water Department stopped buying leaded products on January 1st 2013 and our water meters have been no lead for over a decade.

Effective January 4th we will not accept leaded brass that we see upon installation of the water service. That includes corporation and curb stops that were installed after January 4th, 2014, 3 piece copper to copper fittings, angle stops, back-flow preventers, and pressure reducing valves (PRV's). Corporation and curb stops installed prior to January 4, 2014 may remain in place. Exempt from the law are brass tapping saddles and fire hydrants. Please verify with your distributor that you are getting no leaded brass. Most, if not all are stamped NL and the boxes they come in are tagged no lead. For further questions please contact Nick Pericich, Water/Sewer Operations Superintendent at npericich@bozeman.net.

Notice to Plumbers

When sewer services are being cleaned or root cut, debris from those procedures can be pushed into the main causing a blockage. We are asking that if there is a concern that this issue could have occurred to contact our office immediately and we will respond to flush the main. This service is available 24 hours a day and free of charge and it ensures that the main will not backup. We can be reached Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm at 582-3200 or after hours and holidays at 582-2000 extension 2.

New Requirement for Chlorination!!!

The City of Bozeman has prohibited the use of tablets for water system chlorination. The "tablet method" of chlorination may still be used, however only the granular form of calcium hypochlorite may be used as per AWWA Standard C-651-05 4.4.2.1.

Curb Stamps

New stamps on curbs will make it easy to designate where the water and sewer services cross into property. Below are two pictures of stamps in Baxter Meadows Phase 6. This is a new requirement in the City of Bozeman.
