Due to changes in the world wide recycling market the City of Bozeman and other local recycling services can NO longer accept non-bottle shaped #1 and #2 plastics or any #3 - #7 plastics.

The City of Bozeman Solid Waste Division offers single-stream curbside recycling services to City of Bozeman Garbage Collection customers. Single-stream service started October 1, 2013. Pickup is every other week on your scheduled garbage day. Single-stream recycling service costs just $12.23 per month and includes one 100-gallon bin for your recyclable items. Extra pick up can be arranged for a fee of $20.00.

Smaller 65-gallon totes are available for the same price.

Larger totes are available for commercial and multi-residential customers.

What Can I Recycle?

There are a lot of materials that can be recycled using the single-stream curbside recycling service. Contaminates can lead to an entire load of otherwise clean recyclables ending up as garbage. See below for tips on recycling and a list of acceptable and unacceptable items.

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS

The following items below are acceptable items to be recycled:

Plastics
- #1 and #2 bottles and jugs only
Cans
- Aluminum, tin, and steel
Cardboard
- Flattened corrugated cardboard and cereal and other paperboard boxes
Paper
- Newspaper, Magazines, Catalogs
- Writing and office paper
Phone books
Paper bags

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS

The following items below are unacceptable items to be recycled:

Plastics #3 - #7
Non-bottle shaped #1 and #2 plastics
Clam shell containers
Glass or glassware
Food contaminated pizza boxes, paper plates, napkins, to-go containers
Aerosol cans
Pill bottles
Ceramics
Foil
Metal hangers
Batteries
Light bulbs
Juice boxes and pouches
Chip bags
Styrofoam containers and packing peanuts
Paper style milk cartons
Plastic bags
Frozen food bags
Toxic product containers, examples include, (but are not limited to):
- Oil bottles
- Antifreeze containers/jugs
- Herbicide containers
- Pesticide containers

RECYCLING TIPS

Below are some helpful Recycling Tips to easily prepare recyclable for pickup! Please do not put garbage, food waste, or any unclean items into the recycling bin. Contaminates can lead to an entire load of otherwise clean recyclables ending up as garbage.

What do I need to do to prepare my recyclables for pickup?

Rinse containers with water and leave no food residue in the recyclable containers.
Ensure recyclables are clean, dry, and empty after rinsing
Flatten cardboard boxes to conserve space
Leave labels on the containers
Crush plastic bottles and put caps back on to conserve space
