Bozeman Historic Resource Inventory Map
The Bozeman Historic Resource Inventory is a survey that details notable buildings mainly in the NCOD. Between 1984 and 1986, over 3000 properties were surveyed that created the National Register Historic Districts and placed many individual properties on the National Register of Historic Places. You can learn more about these properties surveyed through the map and online database below. You can find more information on properties surveyed, such as the history and whether or not it is considered a contributing structure, through the Historic Architecture Inventory Map and Historic Inventory Forms.
Update to Architecture Inventory
Many of the properties surveyed in the 1980s have not had their architectural inventory form updated since then. Over the years, the City has worked on updating these forms which provides valuable information on a building's significance and serves as a basis for local planning activities and historic preservation efforts. Individual properties that have these forms updated can be found through the Historic Architecture Inventory Map above.
As part of the larger survey initiatives, there are summary reports that include recommendations on potentially eligible Historic Districts, amendments to existing Historic Districts, and properties that could be considered individually eligible for National Landmark Status. View the summary reports. The areas surveyed include the B-3/Downtown District (2015 and 2021) and the B-2M/Midtown District (2020).
Bozeman Sanborn Maps (1884-1891)
The Sanborn Map Company published fire insurance maps of U.S. cities and towns in the late 19th and 20th centuries. These maps can now be used for historic research of the historic built environment.
