Marijuana Licensing

The City of Bozeman has revised laws and regulations related to marijuana and the Montana Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.

Ordinance 2084 was passed, adopted, and approved by the City Commission on November 9th, 2021. The City began accepting and processing applications for marijuana businesses on January 3rd, 2022

Marijuana Licensing Steps

Before applying please use our Marijuana Buffer Mapping Application to ensure your prospective dispensary is allowed in desired location. City staff will do a cursory review to ensure compliance, but the responsibility is the Applicant’s to verify the location complies with state law.

City of Bozeman recommends starting the licensing process with the Montana Cannabis Control Center.  Once a state license application is in-process, follow the steps below for city licensing. 

1. Applicant submits Bozeman Marijuana Business application via ProjectDox portal online 
2. Applicant schedules Fire-Safety inspection 
3. Applicant will receive ProjectDox Task to Upload:
   • Fire-Safety Inspection report
   • Cannabis Control location-specific license
   • If applicant is eligible in MT, but has not yet received Cannabis Control License, City will issue Conditional Approval letter for applicant to provide to State demonstrating City approval 
4. Formal Marijuana business license issuance
