2024 Salary Data
- Entry-level starting salary: $73k + benefits
- Out-of-state Lateral salary: up to $91k + benefits
- In-state Lateral salary: up to $94k + benefits
Although there is no requirement that police officers live within a certain distance of the city, new officers discover that Bozeman and the surrounding area encompasses a variety of friendly, attractive neighborhoods, as well as hiking, biking, skiing and much more. Officer Lindsay Shepherd joined the Bozeman Police Department in 2010 as an entry level officer. After graduating from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, Officer Shepherd was assigned to the Patrol Division and served there until moving to Detectives in 2024. In addition to her regular duties, Officer Shepherd is a Field Training Officer, Co-Coordinator of the county’s multi-disciplinary Critical Incident Stress Management Team, and an International Association of Arson Investigators Fire Investigation Technician. | Officer Connor Foley was born and raised in SW Montana where he worked for Butte-Silver Bow as a Detention Officer before joining Bozeman PD in 2016. After completing the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, Connor was assigned to the Patrol Division where he worked until 2021. His current assignment is School Resource Officer. Officer Foley is also a Field Training Officer and Police Vehicle Operations Course Instructor. | Detective Sergeant Ben King was born and raised in Western Montana. After serving in various law enforcement capacities in Idaho and Alaska, he returned to Montana in 2015 and joined the Bozeman Police Department. In his spare time, Sergeant King enjoys being outside in Montana and traveling with his wife. | Wendy Elgen was born and raised in Bozeman. After graduating from Bozeman High School and attending Montana State University, she moved away with her husband to run a successful printing company in Arizona. The call of the mountains and fresh air brought her home in 2017 to work for the Gallatin County 911 Records office, joining the Police Department in 2019 as Police Administrative Coordinator. |
